Carpet Care in the Winter

  • Carpet care in winter

Carpet care in the winter is something QCF Bournemouth strongly recommend.

The clocks have officially gone back an hour, signifying the end of British Summer Time. This means (or it’s supposed to) that the weather turns wetter, colder and, for some people, a tad unpleasant.  Whether that’s because of the need to wear multiple layers of clothes, dark nights or muddy footprints everywhere, they can’t wait for the return of spring.

Spare a thought for your hardworking carpets that could be taking the brunt of the winter weather, especially in commercial environments, often without you even realising it. Without proper care and attention, you could be shortening the lifespan of your carpet.

Here are some tips to help keep your carpet in tip-top condition.

BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE

As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure.”

Soil and dirt can, over time, degrade carpet fibres making your carpet look old. So, by being proactive, you’re protecting your investment.

  • START AT THE DOOR.

Make sure visitors remove their shoes at the door and if this isn’t possible due to mobility issues, for example, have some good door mats or runners – they really are worth their weight in gold and are one of the best weapons in your winter carpet care armoury.

Look at high-traffic areas, especially.

  • VACUUM OFTEN.

By vacuuming your carpet 2-3 times weekly, you’ll be doing yourself and your carpet a favour. Hopefully, your vacuum cleaner will have a HEPA filter (a highly efficient filter that traps particles of dust, pollen, and bacteria, for example) that will not only deep clean your carpet but also it helps to purify the air you breathe. This is especially important if somebody in your household has allergies and, of course, because we all spend more time indoors in the winter, and who wants to think about breathing in mites of one form or another?

  • KEEP YOUR ENVIRONMENT WELL VENTILATED

It sounds obvious, but fresh air is your friend; we all need it, and so does your carpet. It helps to prevent moisture build-up, and this, of course, will help to stop mould from forming.

Mould is your enemy – stop it before it starts!

  • CLEAN CARPETS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH!

If your carpets and general environment are clean, tidy and organised, the chances are that you are more likely to invite people to visit you. This social interaction is essential, especially in the cold, dark winter months. As humans, we thrive on interaction with others

  • ACCIDENTS HAPPEN

Deal with “accidents” and other stains as fast as you can.

It’s essential to deal with stains appropriately and be mindful of your carpet type. The carpet experts at QCF Bournemouth are always happy to provide guidance on how to deal with any given stain, and there’s probably nothing they haven’t dealt with before.
